August 2006 - Former NFL player/coach buys the Rio Grande Club
Former NFL player/coach purchases The Rio Grande Club
The Rio Grande Club will begin a new era under the innovative direction of Zaven Yaralian. Yaralian played cornerback for the Green Bay Packers and coached for teams in Denver, New York, Chicago and New Orleans. He was attracted to the area and the Club by the beautiful landscapes and views. As owner, he intends bring celebrities to the Club in expectations that this area will grow into its potential as the next Telluride. Yaralian believes that once people visit, whether they are a celebrity or not, they will return again and again to this beautiful valley.
The Rio Grande Club is a full service recreational club located just east of South Fork. The championship golf course was rated the 6th Best New Course in the Country in 2003. In addition to golf, the Club offers tennis, swimming, a workout room and an expansive restaurant for your fine dining experiences.
Roads have been Authorized to the Village at Wolf Creek
The U.S. Forest Service has authorized two roads to be constructed as access to the proposed Village at Wolf Creek. While the decision did not completely satisfy the developer due to the cost of one of the roads, it is still another step closer to begin construction. When finished, the Village will house over 10,000 people and offer 222,000 sq/ft of commercial space. Opponents to the development fear the environmental impacts that may arise, while supporters feel it will increase jobs and tax revenue for the county.
As sales manager of South Fork River Ranches and Pronghorn Ranch, I am watching these two stories closely. Any affect on the availability of skiing and golf can have a significant affect on the rest of the Valley. The Town of South Fork is quickly becoming a tourist destination for the whole family. Aside from golf and skiing, the Rio Grande River also draws tourists to this unique area. When the Village at Wolf Creek goes into full swing, I believe this area will begin to draw close attention from all over the country. Investors, retirees and those looking for a second home would love what the Rio Grande Valley has to offer.
