September 2005 - Hunting season opens and Del Norte festival
Friday, September 16th begins the inaugural Festival of Imagination in Del Norte. The three day event will highlight the performing arts such as poetry, writing workshops and music. Other activities include open mike night and audience participation with the music performers. As the organizer of the event, Stewart Warren wanted to provide artists a venue and promote the performing arts in Del Norte. He wanted the celebration to be similar to the one in Telluride. Hunting season has begun! The valley has been over populated with elk, again. The Department of Wildlife encourages hunters to go out during these times due to the danger these animals pose to the agricultural industry. Deer are also plentiful in the foothills and on the valley floor at dusk. Summer activities are still going strong in the valley. ATV riders have 165 miles of trails to explore that will be open to snowmobilers and cross country skiers in the winter. The Wolf Creek Ski Area has opened another parking lot in anticipation of the coming ski season.
